Visual Art and Art Education
Art 6This lesson was so much fun with the grade 6 students I was teaching. It infuses First Nations and Métis content and provides a great amount of hands on work. Students had plenty of opportunity to experiment with the making of colour and learned some art history. The tasks within this unit benefit from the assistance of another adult in the room and are enhanced by listening to some soft music, such as Enya. The students loved making the paint and doing the dreamcatchers.

Art 20When taught, this lesson plan went very well. It incorporates art history, cultural exploration, creation and critical thinking. Students are encouraged to think about symbolism and perception and incorporate the ideas given by a movement/concept called Memento Mori to use skulls in a new and unique way or in ways that are meaningful to them. Different time periods and genres of art are looked at from the perspective of the use of representative symbolism. The unit that this works into develops one that looks at culture and how the First Nations people use materials and collections of things to represent ideologies.

Visual Arts
Self creation on a project about Vanitas. This was part of a lesson taught in Arts Education by a peer at the University of Saskatchewan. This creation works into working with pastels oils or charcoal to create a still life in a style similar to the Danish masters.
