Drama & Theatre Arts
Acting
I have been so blessed to have a classroom with lots of space, full of props and small set pieces that students used as they wanted when arranging their plays. Even without the amazing resources, students use their imaginations, and we love to improvise in the Drama classroom.

MonologuingThis play was written to fill a need that couldn't be met with any of the scripts I read. I wrote this so that each of my students had an equal opportunity to shine and so that each had a specific character trait they could explore. It was written for an acting class of eight and nine-year-olds and presents as about a medium in terms of difficulty level.

Radio PlayThese podcasts are the result of studying radio play with a grade 6 art education class and were in keeping with the Halloween season in which they were produced.

Theatre HistoryThis unit was created in a loose style within the guidelines provided by my cooperating teacher and with the collaboration of another student teacher. This unit was received well by students and works best if taught in 8-9 classes, including the exam. Give lots of time to play with masks! The exam that follows was designed for students to complete what they could; it provides differentiated levels for measuring student comprehension.

Theatre History Unit Exam
|
This exam was easily understood by the grade 7 students it was used with. It does require supporting the exam with the notes students took during the Theatre History unit, library books and Internet usage - which would require supporting understanding of how to complete efficient searches using reliable search engines. I would warn that any inclusion of history involving the Festival of Bacchus may result in inappropriate images or material. This is why it wasn't included in this exam and the focus was kept largely to Elizabethan theatre and the study of Shakespeare because this is an area where there is an abundance of information available.
