Lesson Planning
I try to engage different types of learners and make my lessons visual, kinesthetic, and auditory because I want my students to be engaged as they can be in the active classroom I provide. There is always a place for seated, constructive work; but I find that engagement is gained if I can add colour and hopefully, movement to my classes. I have prepared unit plans for Drama, English and Visual Arts classrooms. My plans are written to encourage student engagement, meet curriculum and learner objectives, and provide instruction for differentiated learners.
Oftentimes, Drama teachers find that teaching Theatre History can be the most boring unit for the students, so I try and add humour, video and audio that is meant to keep students focused on a necessary area of learning. In English, I try and keep the areas studied current so that students can connect themselves to what they are studying. In Visual Arts I am trying to build connections to culture and creation to build a broader awareness of possibilities.
